Tequila exports to China

Mexico's tequila industry has managed to break into the Chinese market, despite facing several barriers. Although tequila exports to China still do not reach the figures of markets such as the United States or Europe, sustained growth in recent years shows its potential. In 2014, a change in Chinese sanitary regulations allowed the entry of 100% agave tequila, a significant advance achieved thanks to joint efforts of economic actors, both public and private. Since then, there has been a notable increase in tequila exports to China. The Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), which established an office in Shanghai in 2009, reports steady growth, suggesting great potential for tequila to gain preference among Chinese consumers. This expansion is not only a commercial achievement, but a cultural bridge that connects Mexico with the Eastern world, exporting part of its soul and traditions through each bottle of tequila. The industry faces the challenge of adapting to Chinese preferences and...

Exporting Tequila to Europe

Tequila is gaining popularity in Europe, driven by a growing interest in its unique flavors and role in cocktail culture. Countries such as Spain, the UK and Germany are consuming more tequila, with European mixologists and bartenders innovating cocktails that incorporate local ingredients. The European market offers a wide range of tequilas, from traditional blanco, reposado, añejo and extra añejo, to flavored variations and limited editions that highlight advanced aging techniques. The Blanco and Reposado categories are the most popular in Europe. Blanco, known for its clarity and fresh flavors, is ideal for cocktails and prized for its intense agave flavor. Brands such as José Cuervo Especial, Patrón Silver and Don Julio Blanco are prominent examples. On the other hand, Reposado, aged between two months and a year, offers a smoother and more complex flavor profile, with notes of caramel and vanilla, with Herradura Reposado and Milagro Reposado being some of the preferred brands. Rec...

Tequila Exports to the United States of America

Although Tequila has grown in exports to several countries, the volume and value of exports to these countries do not rival those to the colossus of the north, the United States, the consumer par excellence of Tequila. However, it is notable that since the 1990s, exports to markets such as Canada have seen a sustained and significant increase. Since its beginnings, the U.S. market has monopolized tequila exports, becoming its most loyal destination. White and reposado tequila varieties predominate in preferences, both in the mixed and 100% agave tequila categories. This reflects a U.S. consumer trend toward tequilas ideal for cocktails and mixers, despite a growing interest in the broader range of this beverage. Requirements for exporting Tequila to the United States of America As for the producer and/or bottler must comply with what is specified in the Tequila Export page in the section Documents and general procedures for Tequila export; however for the marketer acting as Tequila imp...
